About me....photography has been my long-standing passion. Since a teenager, I have always had a camera in my hand! I guess I got the 'affliction' from my late father - a person who always had a camera in hand (much to the annoyance at times from those he wanted to take a picture of! Many years later however, some of those same people said how grateful they now are that he had been the one to always carry a camera!).
My first SLR camera was a Zenith 12XP - this was to become the new 'base' from which I developed my interest in photography and travel on a more serious basis. Of course, those were the analogue (film) days, when you in a sense, served your 'apprenticeship' in photography.
A keen eye - you had to not only have a keen eye, analogue photography taught you careful composition, to think before shooting - perhaps unlike in today's digital environment. What a pleasure it was to shoot using 35mm and 120mm medium format film. Great days!
Later, I moved on to a blend of analogue and digital - something I continue today. In fact, not only do I shoot analogue, I also develop my own 'pure black & white' film and print my own images - all by hand. What a joy! I continue to capture moments in time as I travel around the world - an area of particular interest for me lies in the genres of social documentary and landscape - especially long exposure landscapes.
Develop your skills further - education is for life and self-improvement keeps us fresh and in tune with latest developments is technique, equipment, software etc. There are plenty of free resources out there - YouTube for example, contains a wealth of informational videos, suitable whether you are a beginner or experienced. If I can help you, or someone you know, with your or their photography, feel free to drop me an email and I'll do my best to help where I can.
On a closing note, I encourage you to always carry a camera with you wherever you may go (and please please!) complete the photographic 'cycle' by printing your favourite images!). Remember, it's less about how expensive your camera gear is, and more about your technical understanding of your equipments capabilities and your creative technique! You don't need to travel far and wide for great shots, your immediate neighbourhood is a great start, in any season.
